Congratulations to  Maria Schorr who was recently honored as a class of 2017 Cathedral Valedictorian.  Schorr, the Irish VB career assist leader, has compiled a 4.48 GPA (4.0 scale) with a scheduled filled with IB, AP and Honors courses.

Maria’s high school volleyball coach, Jean Kesterson, said “Maria is the poster child for the student athlete. She loves her teammates, has a passion for the game and she expects, through a lot of hard work, to excel in anything she sets her mind to accomplish”.

Being a class Valedictorian was a goal of Maria’s from the moment she stepped on campus. Hard work and dedication has paid off well for her both on and off the court. “On the bus trip following us winning a thrilling five setter against Center Grove to win Semi-State in 2015, Maria was using her cell phone to study for a test she was going to have the following Monday” recalls Coach Kesterson.

Maria was a four year starter for the Irish leading them to a national title in 2015 as well as three consecutive state finals, winning in 2015 and 2016. During her tenure with the Irish they compiled an incredible 125-16 win/loss record.

Recently Maria was honored as a Academic All-American and was a finalist for the Andi Collins Award – National Setter of the Year award.

Maria will continue her education and play volleyball at the University of Dayton.

Congratulations Maria!!
